Moment of Inspiration with Leah Tan

The idea behind the campaign is to learn where others spend their leisure to get recharged, inspired and how this affects to their lifestyle. To understand them and their leisure style, we ask their favorite getaway spots in their neighborhoods. You will learn SF Bay Area local's hidden getaway spots as well as their healthy lifestyle tips. Â

Born and raised in the South Bay, which embraces silicon valley's tech industry and suburban rural scenery at the same time, Leah Tan just started her model career. Her uniquely calm, determined energy made her distinguished from her age group, 18. Â
As she is studying biology at the college on the East Coast, she was visiting her hometown during vacation. It was a typical South Bay's summer day. We met Leah Tan in Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve in Morgan Hill, CA.  Â

You just finished your freshman year at college. I'm wondering what you are into these days.Â
My favorite thing to do is explore new places I’ve never been to before, which is why I love to travel. It gives me a sense of excitement whenever I get the chance to experience something new, and I also feel that I regain my sense of self or learn something new when exploring a new place and seeing all the different things I may not have seen before.Â

What do you usually do in your leisure time?
For leisure, I usually like to go out for a walk in the sun. I feel like it’s not only a good way to get in movement throughout the day, but it also helps me to clear my mind and gives me a chance to relax as well as reflect on my life.
 Â
In your neighborhood, do you have a place to give you a sense of getaway?Â
I like to go to the park or somewhere with a lot of natural scenery. Usually, I stop by the Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve. I just think this place is a really nice and quiet space for me to just decompress whenever I feel like I have a lot on my mind, and being surrounded by nature also helps to rejuvenate my spirit.Â
There’s so much open countryside and all the hills make it look really wonderful. This place is so small yet so big, and I somehow always find a new place to meditate whenever I come by to do so.

Do you have any specific workout or beauty routine to share?Â
When I get up in the morning, I make a drink with hot water, lemon, and honey to kickstart my day. For me, it aids with digestion and also gives me an initial boost of energy before I go exercise.Â
During my workout, I usually try to incorporate both strength and resistance training as well as cardio because I believe that our bodies need both the muscles and the heart to be strong, fit, and healthy. After that session, I normally just go take a shower to rinse off all the sweat and then apply sunscreen to protect my skin.

What is the most important value you think in life?
I think the most important value in life for me is balance. There are times where we may feel very overwhelmed by everything going on in our lives, and that’s completely normal. I also feel the same way at times when I have to juggle with a lot of responsibilities on my plate. But I also think that in such times, it’s crucial that we give ourselves a break and spend some time taking care of ourselves.Â
Sometimes, we may start to lose ourselves trying to keep up in such a fast-paced environment, so it’s important to get a chance to slow down and relax a bit in order to regain our sense of self again. We may actually find that we’re better prepared to take on new challenges after getting a break, or maybe we find a new sense of purpose and motivation.Â
Balance isn’t also just applied to work. It can also be applied to following diets and leading a healthy lifestyle. Too much or too little of anything is harmful, and I think the best way of living a healthy life is to have a sense of balance and harmony with yourself and everything you do.
